Data Protection and Surveillance Technologies: Body Worn Video
Gone are the days where camera surveillance technologies were only fixed on top of a pole. In recent years, we have seen the rise of ‘portable’ video surveillance equipments which allow their user to monitor the world around them. In light of these new developments, the ICO has updated its code of practice for surveillance cameras and personal information (
available here
) which includes a new section on Body Worn Video.
This article considers the data protection and privacy implications of Body Worn Video technology and examines the key compliance steps recommended by the ICO’s code of practice in order to stay within the law.
